ABSTRACT
Artificial intelligence is a field that carries a number of connotations: From helpful companion androids through to sentient killer robots, and even the singularity. The singularity is a hypothetical event where machines are capable of recursive self-improvement leading to an intelligence explosion. Artificial intelligence aims to make machines carry out tasks associated with intellect. Machine learning is a subfield of artificial intelligence focused on improving the performance of an intelligent agent. Machine learning is interested in regularities and patterns in data. Machine learning tasks are traditionally divided into two camps: Predictive or supervised learning and descriptive or unsupervised learning. Many problems that we would like to tackle using machine learning tend to have high complexity. Machine learning can be a powerful tool under our jackalope data scientist belt. The broad aim of machine learning is the development and application of algorithms that can learn from data.
