ABSTRACT

This part introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters. The part describes a number of non-conventional ancillary services that can be offered by Electric Vehicles (EV). Conventional ancillary services usually focus on the services that can be offered by plug-in EVs when they are connected for recharging, and they usually include demand response, frequency regulation, and reactive power balancing. The part explores the services that can be provided by EVs when they are travelling. It examines that Batteries for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles decide when and where to travel in a Full Electric Vehicle-like mode in order to discharge their batteries proactively of a pre-fixed quantity. The part discusses an Intelligent Speed Advisory (ISA) system for EVs. ISA systems are used to provide a number of benefits, including an improved vehicle and pedestrian safety, a better utilization of the road network, or reduced emissions.
