ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the various geopolitical energy policies from different regions of the world to compare and contrast the differences and similarities in this sometimes rapidly changing stage. Interestingly, especially in the context of renewable energy and sustainably, is the activity that is taking place in North America, further illustrating the extreme obstacles being faced today in the attempt to create a sustainable world. The chapter covers the energy activities of Asia and India, the European Union (EU), the Middle East, North America, and Russia in order to illustrate how varied, rapidly changing, and volatile it can be today. Geopolitics is the battle for space and power, played out in a geographical setting. Just as there are diplomatic geopolitics—what people are most used to hearing on the news—which involve the policies of countries, economic geopolitics, and military geopolitics, likewise, there are energy geopolitics.
