ABSTRACT

This chapter briefly discusses the application, chemical properties and physical properties of o-Toluidine. It presents detailed information on the air analysis and analysis of aqueous and nonaqueous samples of o-Toluidine. o-Toluidine is used in the manufacture of various dyes and as an intermediate in rubber chemicals and pharmaceuticals. It is slightly soluble in water, readily miscible in organic solvents, carcinogenic and toxic at high doses. During the analysis of aqueous and nonaqueous samples of o-Toluidine, aqueous samples are extracted with methylene chloride. The organic extract is concentrated and analyzed by gas chromatography (GC)-nitrogen-phosphorus detector (NPD) or GC/mass spectroscopy. During the air analysis of o-Toluidine, analyte is adsorbed over silica gel, desorbed into 95" ethanol in an ultrasonic bath and analyzed by GC-flame ionization detector or GC-nitrogen–phosphorus detector (NIOSH Method).
