ABSTRACT

The gastrointestinal tract is a complex system of organs that digest and absorb nutrients, micronutrients, xenobiotics, and metabolites of gut bacteria. Through the action of the liver and gallbladder, the gastrointestinal tract also detoxifies and excretes toxic and potentially toxic substances from the body. Food is converted into energy and other substances that are used by cells throughout the entire body. Many diseases can affect the various organs of the gastrointestinal tract, and nutrition can affect the course of these disorders.
