ABSTRACT
In this chapter we discuss bilinear forms and quadratic forms. In a sense, bilinear forms are an extension of the inner product, but with some significant differences. In dealing with bilinear forms, some difficulties arise if the scalar field has characteristic 2. Likewise, if the scalar field is the complex numbers, some complications exist. To avoid these issues, we will consider the scalar field to be the real numbers in this chapter.
