ABSTRACT

Terrorism has also been a tactic of groups in an attempt to get their ideology across, such as antiabortion groups, animal rights groups, religious groups, and antigovernment groups. Some terrorism is organized and other is perpetrated by “lone wolfs,” some of which may be just plain crazy, while others are drawn to causes, but choose to act alone rather than with a group. There is often a fine line between terrorism, revolution, lawlessness, religious persecution, criminal acts, and acts carried out by persons with mental illness. Terrorist groups can operate wholly within a country, while others have a larger ambition such as al-Queda and Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). ISIL is the first terrorist group in modern times that wants to establish a state in the name of ISLAM, although their interpretation of the ISLAMIC religion is not based on fact.
