ABSTRACT

Improvised explosive devices (IEDs) have been around for quite some time, however, they only became a familiar subject to the American public as a result of the War on Terrorism and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. According to the United States Department of Homeland Security, an IED attack is the use of a “homemade” bomb and/or destructive device to destroy, incapacitate, harass, or distract. IEDs are used by criminals, vandals, terrorists, suicide bombers, and insurgents.
