ABSTRACT

Wind power has become one of the fastest growing renewable energy sources around the world. Abundant, renewable, clean, and cost-effective, wind energy has many advantages. It is actually one of the lowest-priced renewable energy technologies available today, costing between 4 and 6 cents per kilowatt-hour, depending upon the wind resource or project. Wind turbines (WTs) produce a significant amount of energy for a relatively small cost and with very little disruption to the environment. Design classes of WTs consider multiple environmental conditions, such as long-term wind speed, extreme gust wind speed, turbulence intensity, extreme wind direction change, extreme wind shear, and temperature range. Offshore wind and wave power can be complimentary. Economies of renewable power production and energy storage are possible when using extended, stable floating platform to share.
