ABSTRACT

Evaluating and predicting life expectancy for new sources and technologies for producing electrical energy is an extremely important issue. Electrical equipment either produced by conventional technologies or using renewable energy sources is continuously aging, a natural process based on aging and deterioration of the materials these machines made of, which is the base for evaluating technical life of the electrical machines. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a methodological tool used to quantitatively analyze the life cycle of products/activities. LCA purpose is to evaluate the potential environmental impacts caused by an offshore and onshore wind turbine farms (WTF) throughout the whole lifetime and use this knowledge in the planning and improvement of future WTFs. It is important to notice that environmental effect of onshore WTs is the lowest compared with conventional types of producing electrical energy.
