ABSTRACT
This chapter presents the case of a 49-year-old air hostess who met the general practitioner (GP) for her 12-week Depo-Provera injection. Being unaware of the patient's reasons for this choice of contraceptive method, the GP takes a contraceptive history. The woman says that she is very satisfied with her current choice of contraception. She used to rely on the combined oral contraceptive pill (COCP) and when she was 40 years old she was advised that she could continue it but with a dose of ethinlyoestradiol of less than 30 mg as a first choice. The woman had been pregnant once and the pregnancy ended in a miscarriage. The investigations that followed revealed a bicornuate uterus. She returned to see the nurse who started her on the Depo-Provera injection. After this procedure, her monthly bleeds have stopped and she denies any hot sweats or peri-menopausal symptoms.
