ABSTRACT

The broad introduction to data fusion in the previous chapter gives rise to some insights about how the data fusion algorithms were developed synergistically, with specific emphasis on the proper integration of mathematical theories and physical principles. In this chapter, two exercises of system design are illustrated to provide a holistic understanding of the philosophy for constructing a featured data fusion framework tailored to monitor any vagaries of environmental scenes in two different types of real world problems. Finally, a suite of distinct performance evaluation metrics that have been widely used in the field of data fusion is introduced for quality assurance of the data fusion products.
