Change is everywhere and now it is constant. Time and again, we are asked to change the ways we do things in our lives and particularly at work. With changes coming faster and with more frequency in healthcare, we need to get better at adopting change. Change management is the process, tools, and techniques used to manage the people side of change and achieve a desired business outcome. Change management incorporates organizational tools that can be utilized to help individuals make successful personal transitions resulting in the adoption and realization of change. Change management professionals work in many industries all over the world, have standards and certifications for our practice, and have a global professional association. This chapter clarifies why changes in healthcare are constant and profound.
