ABSTRACT
The chapter provides an overview of artificial neural networks, with a focus on directed (or unsupervised) learning problems such as classification or value estimation. Its main purpose is to introduce the reader to the major concepts underlying this data mining technique, particularly those that are relevant to Chapters 17, 20, and 21.
