ABSTRACT

This chapter presents an exercise where the filmmakers use objects and visually create an opening countdown for their films and other visual mediums. Traditionally, these countdowns were used to help sync up a sound track and picture, but they have become part of the filmic language that they know. Each number on a countdown (which can start at 10) should represent a full second, including any movement and the number itself. In this countdown, the filmakers will go with the National Television System Committee (NTSC) video frame count of 30 FPS. Once all the numbers were shot and the animation was complete, editing takes place. Because the camera and light remained in the exact same position, the author had all sorts of freedom in the edit area. As he mentioned earlier, it required to shoot backward, but the action to move forward needs the application of a reverse playback to the footage.
