ABSTRACT

Objects and people do need to be treated differently in order to get the best-animated results. Many of the successful pixilations from various artists tend to push the actors to exaggerate their emotions and expressions. The main challenge in any stop-motion technique is how to fight gravity. With full-body support like a floor or bed the human figure can be animated freely in space with no constraints from gravity. This technique is similar to downshooting on a stand but in a grander scale. There are times when people or objects have to be animated with a visible support rig. This can be erased or cleaned out later in postproduction. Shooting outdoors presents many unique conditions that must be addressed in order to make the most of the frame-by-frame approach. One piece of equipment that many stop-motion filmmakers utilize is the voltage regulator. This helps keep the electrical input into a studio space even.
