ABSTRACT

A story idea includes a character, a situation, and a conflict. A story idea/concept in Hollywood is called a logline. It is described in 25 words or less with a strong hook and not an overly complex plot. Draws from personal experiences, especially the ones most people would like to forget—embarrassment, secrets revealed, the first time…, etc. Story ideas are best grounded in the shared experiences of the viewer and story creator. The media is full of stories which can be used as catalysts to generate ideas. Brainstorming—bouncing off ideas in a group setting introduces different points of view. That first idea is most likely similar to the ideas that everyone else has, which is why the initial feedback is wildly positive. Informational Research seeks to know everything about the subject; biological, historical, psychological, and physical. The idea, concept, and premise are different steps in the story development process.
