ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on different areas where the business value of software impacts and is impacted by the way that the software is used in other parts of the business. Software is causing one of the biggest headaches to organizations large and small because it is the source of risks associated with cybersecurity. Lean principle applies to the business value of software, which is dependent on the hardware system through which it is delivered, and therefore, it is important to take an end-to-end systems view of the business value. The chapter introduces the concept that the people associated with a piece of software affect the value of the software. It considers the more intangible types of value that can be considered in a holistic approach to value measurement and management. Capers Jones brainstormed a list of considerations that might be included in a hypothetical comprehensive value point metric.
