ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with the stochastic dynamic responses of singly curved composite shells including the effect of twist angle in the geometry. The effect of transverse shear deformation is incorporated in the probabilistic finite element analysis considering an eight noded isoparametric quadratic element with five degrees of freedom at each node. The finite element model is coupled with the response surface method based on D-optimal design to achieve computational efficiency. A sensitivity analysis is carried out to address the influence of different input parameters on the output natural frequencies. The fibre orientation angle, twist angle and material properties are randomly varied to obtain the stochastic natural frequencies.
