ABSTRACT

This chapter first describes the usual concerns of head office (HO) management about the lack of capabilities of their offshore center teams, which prevents the company from offshoring large and complex projects. It discusses the issues faced by the offshore center if it is given only peripheral projects, in terms of negative impact on the offshore center's contributions to the company's revenues and cost savings. The chapter then shows that the concerns of HO management about lack of good talent in the country of the offshore center are just plain myths. It further highlights some facts to show that highly capable and experienced professionals work in countries where offshore centers are typically based, to show that these myths are not true. The chapter finally discusses how companies can capitalize on their highly capable offshore center talent by offering them high-value, large, and complex projects, which can significantly increase the contributions of the offshore center to the company's revenues and profits.
