ABSTRACT
A society based on Nature's Rights must have a technology that is consciously chosen to meld with a sound basis of core human values within the limitations defined by Nature's Laws of Reciprocity. Technology in and of itself is not the answer to global social-environmental sustainability-no matter how much some people might wish it otherwise. One place where it is easy to see how technology has been designed and used to exploit Nature is in the world's oceans, where fishers have long deemed the stocks of fish to be limitless and free for the taking in ever-greater numbers. Bottom-fishing technology is purposefully engineered to destroy the diversity of the seafloor. The Industrial Revolution's technological advances helped equate "progress" with the satisfaction of material wants, which eventually created a consumer-oriented society. The technological creation of body parts requires careful, systemic simulation of how they function within a human body without causing damage to the body's functional dynamics.
