ABSTRACT

Storyboard artists function as a combination of director and editor. They create the blueprint for the remainder of the film. Story beats are major turning points in the plot of the picture. A new beat can indicate the introduction of a new character, a sudden internal or external crisis, a fantasy, a dream, or a change of location or time. Animation storyboards will use beat boards to illustrate the major story points before the rest of the storyboard is completed. Story beats are NOT scenes in the film, but summaries of many scenes. The storyboard develops the action and the acting, and uses creative camera angles, sometimes showing us the action from the man's point of view. The storyboards flesh out the acting and action with cutting and a variety of camera angles. Starting with beat boards and using them as a guide ensures that the story never wanders off topic.
