ABSTRACT

All films contain situations, or else nothing would ever happen in them. A story usually involves a character that is put into a particular situation, or story context. Some films are situation-driven, the universe that the characters inhabit influences their actions and personalities. Stories based on situation often put ordinary characters in extraordinary predicaments. A story with a character arc has heroes that overcome obstacles and character flaws to reach a clearly defined goal. A nonlinear story is relatively uncommon in animated feature films. Nonlinear films still have structure, or else they would be just a series of unrelated scenes. Many classic animated films have linear stories with simple conflicts where an internal or external obstacle must be overcome. The situation is established at the beginning of the story, the conflict is then developed, and resolved at the end of the picture.
