ABSTRACT

The 'surface operations' though also are principally the same as onshore wells, the arrangement of the production system in the mid-ocean needs special attention. This chapter focuses on the surface production system applied in offshore wells. Offshore terminals play an important role in the handling and transportation of crude oil, petroleum products and other liquid cargo. The sea island or fixed jetty berth is basically a conventional jetty berth constructed offshore to serve as a deepwater terminal. The offshore production system can be either fixed or floating type based on which these are classified as fixed production system and floating production system. The fixed production platforms can be divided into three types: Well/satellite platform, process/well-cum-process platform and water injection platform. Knowing the major surface oil and gas operations, the chapter looks into the aspect of how the arrangement of the production systems involved in these operations is made in offshore water.
