ABSTRACT

10A number of ingredients used in the manufacture of rubber composites are of petroleum origin. Eventually, after use, they are converted into carbon dioxide—the greenhouse gas responsible for global warming. Therefore, more researchers are focusing on the opportunities to obtain elastomers and ingredients from renewable sources. This chapter presents briefly the main groups of ingredients used in the manufacture of elastomer composites, as well as opportunities for synthesis and use of new polymers, fillers, and plasticizers from renewable sources.
