ABSTRACT
Most of the northeastern United States and in scattered portions southerly down the eastern seaboard including Georgia was divided and lotted in rectangular fashion. Some areas were done in a formal manner, while others made accommodations for topography and resorted to other systems, for example, longlots, the French arpent system along water bodies, primarily along rivers.
