ABSTRACT

Just like the development in other areas of science and engineering, mathematics has also played an important role in the development of reliability, safety, and maintenance fields. A set of engineering system reliability-, safety-, or maintenance-related data is useful only if it is analyzed in an effective manner. More clearly, there are certain characteristics of the data that help to describe the nature of a given set of data, thus making better associated decisions. Boolean algebra is used to a degree in various engineering system reliability-, safety-, and maintenance-related studies and is named after its founder, George Boole. Usually, Laplace transforms are used for finding solutions to first-order linear differential equations involved in reliability-, safety-, and maintenance analysis-related studies of engineering systems. Exponential distribution is one of the simplest continuous random variable statistical/probability distributions frequently used in the industrial sector, for performing various types of engineering system reliability-, safety-, and maintenance-related studies.
