ABSTRACT

The main role of a leader is to help working teams pay attention to what is important. This chapter introduces a hierarchy of organization needs and communications model that mirrors Maslow’s five levels of individual well-being from an organizational perspective. Long-tenured employees may have different motivators than a recent new hire. Various nonmonetary, high-impact motivators are explored. Finally, a comparison of what types of advice, counseling, coaching, or mentoring best meets the needs of different situations is discussed.
