ABSTRACT
There have to be strict rules about how long a chain of calculations is permitted to remain in the scratchpad layer, and what type of calculations, to avoid impractical scratchpad storage demands. Otherwise a programmer would be tempted to ask that an entire program run in the scratchpad, approximating the answer only when completely finished!
