ABSTRACT

The Cumberland Piedmont Network contains 14 national parks. Most are historic and military parks. Mammoth Cave National Park (MACA) is the main network park considered here. There are many large population centers (more than 500,000 people) near MACA and the network region, including Atlanta, Charlotte, Nashville, and Memphis. Figure 9.1 shows the network boundary along with locations of each park and population centers with more than 10,000 people. Land cover in and around the Cumberland Piedmont Network is variable. The predominant cover types within this network region are generally pasture/hay, forest, and row crop, based on the National Land Cover Dataset. The agricultural and urban land uses may be important source areas for atmospheric N emissions.
