ABSTRACT

Abstract The chapter brings forward multiple ways to determine the birefringence of a uniaxial anisotropic medium from the study of channeled spectra. Analyzed anisotropic layers, of various thicknesses, useful for introducing an optical path variation, comparable to the wavelength of the used radiation were analyzed in this chapter. The methods which neglect the birefringence dispersion to those which take this aspect into account were compared. Finally, the importance of knowing the birefringence in the development of several applications, such as the compensatory slides, is underlined.
