ABSTRACT

The fractal and entropy concepts have been widely used for analysis of medical images. This is due to the unique characteristics of such images that show a certain degree of randomness associated with properties of anatomical structures. There are a number of algorithms that have been developed for measuring the fractal dimensions (FD). In order to better understand the terms and practical application of each method, this chapter first introduces the state of the art techniques which have been mostly used for biomedical image analyses. It then evaluates the literature to identify the differences between various approaches and provides the readers with detailed explanations for easy implementation of each method in practice.
