ABSTRACT

The factor analysis (FA) model and methods for fitting it by using Mplus. FA is described as being conducted in either of the two ways, exploratory (EFA) or confirmatory (CFA). The purpose of this chapter is to describe the fitting of multilevel versions of the models discussed earlier. It focuses on the results that did achieve convergence, corresponding to the models. The chapter describes the basics of fitting multilevel SEMs by using Mplus. In examining the output, we will focus first on the ICCs for each of the observed variables. The chapter extends the standard growth curve modeling (GCM) to include a second level of data. It also examines the model fit information and class membership probabilities. Given the complexity, it can become very easy for the researcher to drift away from the solid footing of established theory into uncharted and deep waters with the help of difficult-to-fit-and-understand models.
