ABSTRACT
The history of building codes is very long, going back even beyond 4000 years, when some rules and regulations were gathered by Hammurabi to protect public health. The first ‘modern’ fire building code seems to have been documented after the Great Fire of London in 1666, when more than 70,000 homes were destroyed. The code mostly contained some requirements in order to provide buildings with a minimum level of fire resistance.
