ABSTRACT

At present, there have been few efforts to evaluate experimentally the performance of urban structures under PEF loading, mostly due to the tests being costly and the fact that their results cannot simply be generalized from one type of structure to other types. Computerized modeling can thus be a suitable substitute for experiment. Nevertheless, very few computer tools are currently available that are capable of performing a coupled analysis for all types of structures, i.e. considering seismic analysis and subsequent fire, allowing for the variation of material properties at elevated temperature. The reason for this limitation mostly pertains to the high complexity of PEF modeling.
