ABSTRACT

This chapter utilizes the direct adaptive fuzzy logic control (DAFLC) methodology to design a load frequency control (LFC) scheme for a multi-area power system. The operation of power systems dictates matching the power generation and the load power. The role of LFC is to ensure the balance between the generation and load in a given area. The classical control techniques of LFC which are based on mathematical models fail to achieve the control objectives in the presence of uncertainties or changes in the operating points. A given state model can be transformed to the controller canonical form via coordinate transformation. The coordinate transformation exists if the state model is controllable. The chapter develops an LFC scheme based on the DAFLC for an N-area power system. It is assumed that the multi-area system is written in controller canonical form.
