ABSTRACT
Research regarding urban phenomena lacks common ground and testable concepts. Although this is to be expected to a certain degree in a multifaceted discipline, the discord among various perspectives and the lack of sound theories hampers progress that can lead to the application of new theoretically grounded understandings to contemporary issues. For those concerned with the management and planning of cities and developing urban regions, the potential rewards offered by remote sensing, urban models, and planning support systems as information aids in the decisionmaking process may seem dazzling.
