ABSTRACT

Digital orthoimages are a critical component of the national spatial data infrastructure (NSDI) and

The National Map

(Federal Geographic Data Committee, 1997; Kelmelis et al., 2003; Kelmelis, 2003; Maitra, 1998). Digital orthophotos contain the image characteristics of a photograph and the geometric properties of a map and

thus can (1) serve as a geospatial foundation upon which to add detail and attach attribute information; (2) provide a base on which to register and compile other themes of data accurately; and (3) orient and link the results of an application to the landscape (Federal Geographic Data Committee, 1995).
