ABSTRACT

An understanding of the business value of geospatial technology and geospatial science’s relationship with a local government organization’s vision, goals and objectives of a local government organization are all paramount to sustained success. According to project management informed solutions, a business realization planning (BRP) “is the definition, planning, structuring and realization of the benefits of a business change or business improvement project. The local government identifies the areas where geographic information systems offers the organization quantifiable benefits. BRP is one of the many ways of managing how time and resources are invested into making desirable changes within the organization. A BRP translates analytical results into actionable measures. The BRP not only measures how projects and programs add value to organizations, but also provides a set of questions and practices that local government management professionals and leaders can use to help guide the identification, analysis, delivery and sustainment of benefits that align with an organization’s strategic goals and objectives.
