ABSTRACT

High-performance organizations (HPO) are predicated upon organic and continuous improvement. Local government must examine the ways a HPO management strategy can be used for geospatial technology in local government. The Business Realization Plan encompasses the business case, appropriate measures, benefit drivers, processes and ongoing monitoring of the benefits provided by geospatial technology to the organizations. The smart geographic information systems (GIS) ecosystem of software will only expand its significance within in local government. In whatever form it takes, GIS software will continue to change the way every local government department operates. The evolution, maturity and competence levels of GIS in local government can be determined and documented using two specific methods of measurement. The Project Management Institute Thought Leadership support Business Realization Planning as a core strategic initiative in local government. Sustainable communities are places where local government meets the needs of everyone in the community regarding safety, health and the quality of life.
