ABSTRACT

This chapter examines knowledge retrieved from domain experts to evaluate some domestic vendors in Taiwan, to get closer to consumers' needs and their expectations of smartphone development. As smartphones become more powerful by combining the advantages of mobile phones and computers, the selection of such a personal device requires an effective evaluation method that can identify the relative importance of the considered criteria. In this regard, a hybrid multiple attributes decision making model combining the decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL)-based analytic network process (DANP) and modified vikor is proposed; the modified vikor method can aggregate the weighted performance gap in each criterion, which can be further integrated with the DEMATEL technique as a managerial tool for improvement planning. The hybrid MADM model—based on DEMATEL, DANP and the modified vikor—shows how to identify the performance gaps closing zero toward achieving the aspiration levels on each dimension/criterion for those smartphone vendors.
