ABSTRACT

Congratulations on deciding to pursue the Project Management Institute’s Professional in Business Analysis (PMI-PBA)® Certification. This is without doubt one of the most important certifications a person involved with projects and supporting business operations could pursue. From the senior portfolio manager to a college intern, if you are involved with assessing the needs of an organization, eliciting requirements, or measuring delivered solution value, you will derive value from this book and certainly from the PMI-PBA® certification. As organizations institute lean principles and become more efficient, it is not uncommon for project managers to also fulfill the role of business analysts. Likewise, in small organizations that do not have a formal project management office (PMO) or a standardized project delivery methodology, it is not uncommon to expect business analysts to manage projects. Both can be ingredients for a difficult and sometimes challenging road ahead and, unfortunately, in many cases can lead to either project failure or unfulfilled stakeholder expectations. Even for those individuals who are not directly involved with projects, the tools and techniques that we will explore can improve upon a broad range of activities.
