ABSTRACT
In this chapter, the author's instinct would be to ask questions about the sort of technology of which glimpses have emerged in the physical world. Nobody in the metal-forming business is worried that it might be developed into something to replace industrial presses, forges and the like. Similarly wood, a rigid material used in so many beams and much furniture, has been made psychically flexible enough for tables to be able to waltz around on their legs. The author speculates that this may be part of some wider phenomenon whereby the physical properties of many systems may be briefly and usefully altered. Perhaps the most dramatic change resulting from information gained from the unknown world would be in space travel. The author dreams of just entering the unknown world somewhere and exiting it again many light-years away in physical space, without all that tedious physical travelling.
