ABSTRACT
In 2007, I watched the Chinese TV series Plot (An suan) and was intrigued by its storyline and the acting. One of the stories in the series relates to cryptography. I thought the story itself was not bad, notwithstanding a certain degree of deliberate mystification. The show did get one thing right: mathematics is the foundation of modern cryptography.
