ABSTRACT
You may have already noticed that regardless of the problem or questions at hand, we always search for an accurate mathematical model to fit them. In order to clarify the importance of mathematical models, I spent two hours to introduce the mathematical model of search engines when I taught the class “The Fundamentals of Internet Search” at Google China in 2006. Later on, when I joined Tencent in 2010, I discussed the same materials in my first lectures to its engineers.
