ABSTRACT

Discrete mathematics is an important branch of contemporary mathematics and the foundation of theoretical computer science. Under its umbrella are formal logic, set theory, graph theory, and abstract algebra. Logic is strongly tied to boolean algebra, as previously discussed. If you search “discrete mathematics” on Google Trends, you will find that the states most interested in this field are Maryland, Indiana, New York, Virginia, California, Massachusetts and New Jersey—all locations with well-established universities.
