ABSTRACT

Broadly speaking, property is either classed as ‘residential’ or ‘commercial’, particularly with regard to building surveying applications. A large sector of building surveying work is concerned with undertaking valuations and surveys for mortgage lending or home acquisition and this is classed as residential surveying. All other applications of building surveying could be classed as commercial. Indeed, the RICS guidance notes concerned with building surveys are specifically divided into residential or commercial buildings.
