ABSTRACT

Let’s face it – you may have bought this book to help you pass a critical appraisal exam. Critical appraisal is examined in all medical and allied health professions and at all levels. Learning how to appraise papers is an essential requirement for a health care professional – both to shape your practice as a ‘best’ evidence-based clinician and to help make decisions on departmental policies. So, it is understandable why critical appraisal is so frequently assessed. It is also understandable why people fear these exams so much, as critical appraisal can seem detached from the clinical work we are used to doing.
