ABSTRACT
The reader should be familiar with most of the topics in this chapter. However, it is often the case that set notation is not familiar and so a short discussion of this is included first. Complex numbers are then considered in somewhat more detail. You cannot escape the use of complex numbers in differential equations and since this topic tends to be neglected, I have included an introduction here.
