ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses project planning requirements from a systems-wide perspective. As the opening quote opines, cooperation across many minds involving several subsystems of an enterprise is essential for organizational success. In this chapter, the required components of a plan are discussed. Motivation is discussed as one of the factors that in‚uence project plans across functional boundaries. The important considerations in project feasibility studies are presented. Guidelines are presented for issuing or responding to requests for proposals. Budgeting is discussed as a planning tool for project efforts. Work breakdown structure (WBS) is discussed as it relates to getting more accurate work data for project plans. The need for legal considerations in project plans is also discussed. The overall theme of project planning should center on involving all organizational components and stakeholders.
